KARACHI: Karavan Karachi rally on 19th

KARACHI, Jan 3: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has directed the departments of Local Government, Education, Culture and Information to extend every possible support in making successful the Karavan Karachi Rally/Parade to be held on Jan 19.

Presiding over a meeting, he said that the Karavan should not be limited to Karachi alone but should be a symbol of peace for the entire province.

He said the banners for the occasion should be inscribed with words such as: “Peace of Karachi - Peace of Sindh.”

He made it clear that strengthening of peace would have positive effects on development and prosperity in the province.

The organizers of the rally informed him that about 3,000 schoolchildren were preparing for installing a one-kilometre-long mural on Jan 17. Every child will present a flower to the City Nazim while on Jan 19 floats from all the districts of Sindh, depicting their respective cultural heritage, will take part in the parade.

A flower-laden float will also accompany the parade, they added.

SEA FESTIVAL: The Sindh sea festival 2003 will be organized from Feb 6 to 9 at the Clifton beach.

Chief organizer of the programme Zohaib Hassan said that the event was aimed at promoting the beautiful coastline of Karachi as well as to celebrate the ‘dawn of democracy’.

Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar has been invited to perform the inauguration of the festival along with the City Nazim.

Zohaib was optimistic that the festival would help in promoting trade and cultural activities, as a number of people from within the country and abroad would attend the programme.

He said that such a festival organized earlier at the Expo Centre had attracted 89 exhibitors, 160 performing artists and over 300,000 visitors and as such, according to him, it had become the largest festival ever held in the province.—PPI/APP
