KARACHI, Jan 3: The activity on the Karachi port is expected to pick up further as eight ships are due to arrive on Saturday, according to KPT sources.
Most of the vessels are carrying containers barring Barkatka to load 8,500 tons of molasses and Sonali, with raw jute.
Berthing activity at the wharves was slow where only two ships, Al-Ihsaa to unload and load containers, and Navigator to offload oil were berthed after the departure of only one.
Manking departed, while Iron-D, Al-Ihsaa, Navigator, PONL Thekwini, Ibn Malik and Sinar Bontang are due to sail out on Saturday.
Cargo handling activity at the wharves remained light as the total tonnage amounted to 44,808 tons comprising 18,310 tons of export tonnage and 26,498 tons of import cargo.
The following ships are due on Saturday: Al-Cyonida, with 60,000 tons of crude oil, Barkatka, to load molasses, Andhika Adhidaya to load molasses, Jamila, Hyundai Stride, PONL Singapore and Mar Challenger, with containers and Sonali, with 9,000 tons of raw jute.

KARACHI, Jan 3: Two vessels carrying chemicals allotted berths at Multipurpose Terminal during the last 24 hours, says a PQA press release on Friday.
Meanwhile, another two ships scheduled to load/offload containers and coal also arrived at the outer anchorage.
Six vessels, Albany, Isadora, Maria Bottiglireri, Ievoli Shine, Qem Star and Royal Ocean were busy in loading/discharging containers, general cargo, chemical and coal respectively.
A cargo volume of 25,937 tons comprising 16,230 tons of import and 9,707 tons of export tonnage, inclusive of cargo carried in
571 containers (Teus), was handled.
Sailing activity remained brisk as five ships, Flagtom, Royal Ocean, MSC Maeva and ER Albany were sailed out.
Two ships, Francisca Schulte and Dimitris Perrotis were expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal and Steel Jetty.
