KARACHI, Jan 2: Rampaging Lahore bulldozed Kohat 9-1 courtesy of another sparkling Rizwan Butt hat trick in the 50th national hockey championship qualifying round at UBL Sports Complex Thursday.

Rizwan, who had scored his first hat trick against Mekran Wednesday was equally brilliant against Kohat.

The game exploded into life when Rizwan struck twice in in the 13th and 16th minutes, but Zubair Riaz spoiled his treble by netting in the 18th minute and then in the 41st minute off penalty corners.

Rizwan continued to torment Kohat with his dribbling runs and fired a salvo of two goals in the 45th minute and 46th minute. Kohat’s consolation came through Asif Awan who converted a penalty stroke in the 49th minute.

Rizwan’s endeavours finally paid off when he wrecked havoc in the Kohat defences to complete his hat trick by sounding the board on 55 minutes.

Zubair added another in the 61st minute through a short corner and Rizwan-ul-Haq converted the stroke two minutes from fulltime.

Mekran, thrashed 24-1 by Lahore on the opening day, were treated more harshly when Sargodha, powered by eight- goal Ansar Hayat, pulverised them 25-0.

Sargodha were on the attack from the beginning as they surged into a 4-0 lead within 10 minutes of the first half. Zahid Hussain’s fourth-minute goal was followed by two from Imran Zafar in the sixth and eighth minutes, while Sajjad Shah pounced in the 10th minute.

Yet there was no respite for poor Mekran as Sargodha wrecked havoc with their opposition’s defences by slotting home seven more to make it 11-0 before the breather.

A 19th-minute penalty corner conversion by Ansar was followed by raids from Zahid, Mohammad Azam, and Imran in the 22nd, 23rd, and 25th minutes. Ansar pulled another in the 27th minute, Sajjad scored in the 30th minute, while Ansar found the cage two minutes before break.

Imran converted a short corner in the 40th minute, Ansar found the target in the 42nd minute, Zahid struck in the 43rd and 44th minutes, Bilal Saeed and Imran got in the 45th and 48th minutes.

Sargodha continued their goal-spree with striking twice in the 55th minute via Shahid Mahmood to make it 20-0. Ansar had his name onto the scoresheet twice in the 56th and 59th minutes, while Azam (61st minute) and Ansar (66th, 70th minutes) capped the victory.

In another one-sided affair, four-goal Nisar Ahmad helped Karachi ‘A’ outclass hapless Naseerabad 17-0.

The visitors received first jolt with the game barely 60 seconds old when Asadullah converted the penalty stroke. Back- to-back attacks by Samiullah and Izhar in the 5th minute made it 3-0, while Sami got another off a stroke in the 13th minute.

Six quick goals enhanced the lead to 10-0 before the halftime. Izhar grabbed his second in the 18th minute, Wasif Raza stretched the ascendancy by scoring in the 25th minute, Nisar added two in the 31st and 33rd minute, while Imran Khan and Adnan Najam were on target a minute before the lemon time.
