RAWALPINDI, Jan 2: A 115-run opening stand between Kamran Sajid and Ghulam Ali powered PIA to a healthy 242 for five on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-IV match against Zarai Taraqaiti Bank Limited (ZTBL) at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Kamran Sajid hit a steady 50 and Ghulam struck 69 to give PIA a flying start. Down the order Bazid Khan was looking good, having scored an unbeaten 53. With him was his skipper Moin Khan, who was 32 not out at the close.
The wickets went to medium-pacers Mubashir Nazir and Fahad Masood, both picking up two each.
Meanwhile, KRL gained an important 30-run first innings lead after their paceman Jaffer Nazir sent Karachi Blues crashing to 115 all out by snapping up five for 57.
Tariq Sabzwari with 29 top-scored for the Karachiites as others around him could not stand their ground and the entire side was back in the pavilion in just 36.5 overs.
Apart from Jaffer, Faisal Afridi claimed three for 35 and Yasir Arafat took two for 20 to complete the first innings demolition.
KRL, in reply, were 145 for four when bad light stopped play prematurely at their home ground.
Saeed Anwar Jr cracked 51 and Muhammad Ramzan scored 42 as the hosts finished the day on top.
