NEW YORK, Jan 2: Former minister of state for foreign affairs, Inamul Haq, has been tipped to become Pakistan’s high commissioner to India, informed sources told Dawn here on Thursday.
Haq, who has also served as foreign secretary and Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations and China, is favoured by President Gen Pervez Musharraf to head the Pakistan high commission in New Delhi. The earlier proposed appointment of Kamran Niaz was deferred, and he is now being sent to Japan.
Besides the fact that foreign secretary Riaz Khokhar has been given two years extension to serve, the foreign office is preparing a list of new appointees to several other countries, the sources said.
