Parliamentarians hailed

Published January 2, 2003

LAHORE, Jan 1: Punjab PML-Q Information Secretary Kamil Ali Agha has congratulated parliamentarians who, in the light of their conscience, voted for Prime Minister Jamali in preference to their personal or party interests.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said those who had opposed Mr Jamali in the confidence vote were the ones who had offered conditional cooperation to Gen Musharraf but the talks had failed.

Making an obvious reference to suggestions that opposition legislators had been pressured to vote for the prime minister, Agha argued that MNAs were not sucklings who would do as told to.

About the election of Chaudhry Shujaat Husain as PML-Q president, Agha said it would popularize the party and stabilize the political system. He said Shujaat’s decision that now the government would be subservient to the party was a victory of workers.

He said this would be the first time during the 50 years that the party would be more important than the government.
