Weapons seized

PESHAWAR, Jan 1: The crime investigation department seized illicit arms and arrested an alleged smuggler on Kohat road on Tuesday.

The department had received information that some people would try to smuggle weapons from Bara to Punjab, said a press release.

A CID team erected barricade near Scheme Chowk on the Kohat road and signalled the pick-up, J-6281, Peshawar, going from here to stop.

During search, 12 kalashnikovs, four sten-guns, two kalakovs, five sub-machine guns, a rocket launcher (RPG-7), five RPG shells, six Russian missiles, five rocket shells, five 30-bore pistols and 1,000 rounds were found. The weapons, concealed in household goods, were being taken to Punjab and subsequently to Sindh to commit sabotage. The arms and ammunition were seized.

The CID arrested Zaman, son of Rahim Shah, resident of Qilla Mira Kachori. A case has been registered against him accused in the CID police station and investigation is in progress.

#ACCIDENT:# An employ of Engineering University was run over by a car on University Road on Monday night.

Hukmat Shah, the bearer of Tribal Hostel of the university was going on his bicycle to purchase medicine for a student when a car hit him and injured him seriously. The cops on the university gate did not take him to the nearby Sherpao Hospital nor noted the vehicle number, eyewitnesses said.

Later, the students brought Hukmat to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
