Wrong man brought home

Published January 2, 2003

CAIRO, Jan 1: An Egyptian man who had waited three months for authorities to return his father from Saudi Arabia, after he disappeared there, was surprised at the airport to find police bring him the wrong man.

Hassan Jibril, 68, went to Makkah for Haj three months ago but then vanished. His family reported his disappearance to authorities, who later said they had found Jibril.

His son then obtained new papers for him and made arrangements for his return.

On Wednesday the son and family members went to the airport to greet Jibril but were surprised to find police bring them a different man, bearing the same name and struck with amnesia.—AFP
