Army too strong for NWFP

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: Title holders Army continued their winning run in the 38th National Volleyball Championship, thrashing NWFP 3-0 at the Gymnasium in Wah Tuesday.

Army did not face much problems from the rivals downing them 25-17, 25-13, 25-11 to complete their third successive win of the competition in which they have yet to drop a set.

The victory put Army in the quarterfinal league where their first match will be against Punjab. Other games will see POF play PAF, Police taking on NWFP and Navy facing Wapda.

In other matches played Tuesday Railways scored their first win of the tournament by defeating Sindh 25-18, 25-13, 25-21 while POF remained unbeaten outplaying PTCL 25-13, 25-12, 25-21 for their third triumph on the trot.

Wapda blew winless Islamabad away 25-10, 25-11, 25-14 and Police showed their might with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 blanking of Punjab.

In other games, Pakistan Boards edged past Fata 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-8. PAF beat Higher Education 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 and Navy defeated AJK 25-17, 25-6, 25-20.
