Rawalpindi to face Nawabshah

RAWALPINDI, Dec 31: Rawalpindi and Nawabshah will set the preliminary round of the 50th Golden Jubilee National Hockey Championship rolling on Wednesday.

The Rawalpindi round of the championship was originally to be staged in Quetta but had to be moved here because of the harsh weather in the Balochistan capital.

Two sides from this eight-team round being staged at the ARL Naseer Bunda Ground go through to the finals.

Quetta, D.I. Khan, Mardan, AJ&K have been bracketed together in Pool A while Multan, Rawalpindi, Nawabshah and Mirpur Khas are in Pool B.

Wednesday’s fixtures: Rawalpindi v Nawabshah, Multan v Mirpur Khas, Quetta v Mardan, D.I.Khan v AJ&K.

PHF FORUM

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in order to seek suggestions for improving the state of the sport is to hold a forum featuring former Olympians and pundits.

The forum, to be staged in Rawalpindi will feature such stars of yesteryear as Abdul Rasheed Jnr and Shahbaz Ahmed.
