ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is facing hardships in developing three new sectors — I-14, I-15 and I-16 — due to faulty planning, the CDA’s director-general services, Moiuddin Jameeli, told Dawn on Tuesday.
The official said the authority’s road directorates were facing problems in constructing roads and streets in these sectors due to improper levelling of the ground.
In view of such problems, the CDA chairman had recently convened a meeting and formed a committee headed by deputy director-general works for early development of the sectors.
He said the committee would meet again on January 16 to give its suggestions to overcome the problems being faced in the development of these sectors.
Responding to a question, the director-general said there were some faults in the development plan and the committee would work to remove them. He said the CDA board had already given approval for the development of the new sectors.
Meanwhile, a source in the CDA said the development of these sectors was started a couple of months ago after a lapse of six years.
Levelling of earth, construction of roads and drainage system had been started in sector I-14. Similarly, water supply system, drainage system and sewerage system were being established in sector I-16.
The CDA had recently allocated Rs162 million for the development of sector I-16 and Rs88.359 million for sector I-14.
The source said development of both sectors was to be completed within a year. He said out of the total allocation for sector I-16, Rs60 million would be spent on the development of roads, Rs64 million on water supply system, Rs36 million on sewerage system and Rs2 million on the construction of a retaining wall.
Likewise, in sector I-14, Rs60 million would be spent on construction of roads, Rs23.359 million on sewerage system and Rs5 million on water supply system.
The source said the cost of development had been escalated by 30 per cent due to the long delay.
The PC-I of both sectors was approved in 1994-95, but due to several reasons, including financial constraints and lack of cooperation of the villagers of the area, the projects could not be commissioned.
Similarly, the authority has approved PC-I of sector I-15 in which 9,750 plots will be allocated for low-salaried government employees.
