Narrow win for NBP

LAHORE, Dec 30: National Bank survived some anxious moments before completing a narrow two-wicket win over hosts Faisalabad in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-I match at Iqbal Stadium on Monday.

The bankers resumed at 80 for four but lost four more wickets before crossing the target of 158 with Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar and Naumanullah making useful contributions.

Saeed, batting down the order, scored 34 awhile Naumanullah hit 54.  

For Faisalabad, off-spinner Asif Hussain and pacer Moazzam Ali claimed four wickets each for 29 and 73 runs, respectively.

Sargodha, meanwhile, registered an eight-wicket win over  Servis Industries at Sports Stadium, Sargodha.

After Servis were bowled out for 144 in the second innings, the home team easily scored the 57 runs needed for an outright victory.

Sargodha’s star performer was Ahmed Hayat, who claimed nine wickets in the match including six for 57 on Monday and also contributed 84 with the bat.

Bad weather came to Lahore Blues’ rescue in nick of time in their match against Wapda at Gymkhana Ground in Okara.

The Blues were 115 for nine in the second innings, having resumed at 25 for five, when the weather intervened.

*At Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad:

National Bank beat Faisalabad by two wickets.

NATIONAL BANK 295 (Qaiser Abbas 87, Mushtaq Ahmed 62, Saeed Anwar 58; Farooq  Iqbal 4-80, Moazzam Ali 3-106) and 159-8 (Naumanullah 54, Saeed Anwar 34; Asif Hussain 4-29, Moazzam Ali 4-73).

*At Sports Stadium, Sargodha:

Sargodha beat Servis Industries by eight wickets.

SERVIS INDUSTRIES 286 (Sufian Munir 64, Bilal Khilji 58; Ahmed Hayat 3-84, Umair Hasan  3-68) and 144 (Sufian Munir 55; Ahmed Hayat 6-57, Mohammad Sarfraz 3-49);

SARGODHA 374 (Ahmed Hayat 84, Umair Hasan 46; Mohammad Irshad 4-82) and 58-2.

*At Gymkhana Ground, Okara:

Match drawn.
