ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: A grant-in-aid of 70 million Yen offered by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) for the establishment of a dumping site for waste disposal at Kurri Road has lapsed due to delay in execution of the project, a source told Dawn.
The source said one of the reasons behind delay in the project was the non-acquisition of land. He said the project will cost Rs1,500 million.
The source said some new garbage lifting vehicles had to be included in the existing fleet and a plant had to be installed at the site for garbage disposal.
The CDA has approved a PC-I of Rs9 million for the construction of a building on the dumping site.
Talking to Dawn, a CDA official confirmed that the grant-in-aid had lapsed due to several reasons. However, he said the authority had prepared feasibility of the project and the entire project could be completed within a year, if the required funds are released.
He said the CDA had improved the existing dumping site at sector H-12 but it was still insufficient for the dumping of daily production of garbage. “The daily production of garbage in Islamabad is 700 tons but only 500 tons garbage is disposed of due to improper dumping facility,” the official said.
