SIALKOT, Dec 30: Daska duty magistrate Mohammad Aslam on Monday extended physical remand of Qari Afzal, the main suspect of Church attack, till Jan 1.

The Satrah police will produce Qari Afzal before the anti-terrorism court, Gujranwala, on Jan 2 for further proceedings.

Qari Afzal was produced before the magistrate as the special court was closed due to the winter vacation.

Meanwhile, the sensitive agencies have started investigation against those Christian leaders who had told US consulate’s regional security officer Thomas Cage, during his visit to Chianwali on Dec 26, that Qari Afzal had links with Al-Qaeda.

“We have not yet found any proof against Qari Afzal in this regard,” the sources said.

It is learnt that the officials concerned have given a surety to Qari Afzal’s family that he would not be handed over to FBI.

“Involvement of RAW in this terrorist activity cannot be ruled out,” they said.

SECURITY: Following the assassination of MPA Chaudhry Farooq, security of all legislators has been tightened in the province.

According to sources, the provincial government has asked police highups to providing guards to the legislators. However, the MNAs and MPAs can also arrange private security guards.
