GUJRANWALA, Dec 30: The district council has approved Rs35 million for the uplift projects and allocated Rs16 million out of this amount for women councillors for their welfare programmes.
The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Monday under the chairmanship of district Naib Nazim Haji Gohar Zaman.
The meeting also gave the approval for naming the ‘mini stadium’ after PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun on a motion tabled by PPP UC Nazim Lala Muhammad Idris.
It also condemned the attack on a Daska Church and expressed grief over the killing of innocent people on Christmas day.
The district coordinating officer (DCO) has been allowed to give an approval for the expenditure of Rs250,000 while the EDO Rs100,000 each.
District Nazim Fiaz Ahmed Chattha said that an underpass would be constructed in the city on Haidari Road with an amount of Rs10 million while Rs25 million would be spent on the construction of a burn unit at the DHQ Hospital and Aligarh High School.

There was a conflict between Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Yousaf over a piece of an agricultural land. Wahid, his brother-in-law Ehsanullah and others were present in the house when Yousaf and his sons came there and attacked them with clubs and iron rods. This was stated by MMA MNA Maulana Qazi Hamidullah and MPA Maulana Ghulam Farid Hazarvi while speaking at a meeting here on Monday.
They urged the district administration and police authorities to take appropriate action against the people who were out to celebrate the new year night in an un-Islamic way. Various hotels and marriage halls were booked to hold ‘vulgar’ programmes, they alleged.
On the other hand, the Shabab Milli has also formed its ‘danda force’ to foil vulgarity on the occasion of the new year night.
Meanwhile, the district administration and the police adopted measures to maintain law and order and deployed heavy police force at all important places.
