KARACHI, Dec 30: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad sought on Monday the media’s cooperation for bridging the gulf between the urban and rural people and for putting the province on the path of peace, development and prosperity.

The atmosphere of misunderstanding should now come to an end and the media, politicians and other segments of society should have a synchronized role for the accomplishment of this goal, he said during his visit to offices of the print and electronic media in Karachi.

During the day-long tour, he went to the offices of Dawn group of newspapers, Nawa-i-Waqt, The Nation, Family Magazine, Express, Insaf Times, Khabrain, Qaumi Akhbar, Jurrat, The News, Awam, other Jang Group of Publications, Jasarat and the Geo News channel.

Governor Ibad said he had invited politicians from various parties to join in his efforts to solve the problems faced by the province, and added that the media had to play a pivotal role in this respect.

Past experience had caused despair among the people, but now we should look forward to a better future and work for the national cause rising above petty personal interests, he said.

On the behaviour of certain politicians with regard to his appointment as the governor of Sindh, Dr Ibad said he would serve the people of Sindh without any discrimination.

He vowed to establish the writ of law and referred to the promulgation of an ordinance envisaging punishment for extortion. No body would be allowed to harass the people, the governor said, adding he would also approach various parties and groups to seek their cooperation in eradicating this menace.
