ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to install 10 new tube wells in different sectors to cope with water shortage. The project would cost Rs39 million.

Sources in the authority told Dawn that an appeal had been made to the people to use water judiciously so as to ensure its smooth supply. They said the water level in the dams was decreasing, which were the main source of supply in the capital.

They said owing to low rains, the water level at Simli Dam had decreased by 18 feet from 2295 to 2276.80 feet. They, however, hoped that the situation would improve in July.

The sources said the authority was supplying about 55 million gallons of water per day out of which 16 million gallons were coming from Simli Dam, 8 million gallons from Khanpur Dam, 21 million gallons from tube wells and 7 million gallons from augmentation. They said the authority was supplying 10 million gallons per day from its different water works including Noorpur, Shahdara, Saidpur and Kuram.
