Rawalpindi take control against Karachi ‘B’

By Our Sports Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Dec 28: Karachi Blues paceman Imranullah rocked Rawalpindi by taking three wickets in one over to finish with a haul of six for 51 on the second day of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-IV match at Pindi Stadium on Saturday.

Imran, who had picked up three wickets on Friday, snapped up another three, this time mopping up the Rawalpindi tail and restricting them to 281.

He dismissed Yasir Ashfaq for 15 and sent Mohammad Akram and Mohammad Fayyaz back for nought, all in one over to complete what was indeed a fine day’s work.

But Karachi batsmen seemed to spoil the good work done by Imranullah and were reduced to 33 for 3 by the close, pacer Fayyaz claiming two wickets.

Earlier, Rawalpindi who had resumed at 63 for three were helped by a 142-run knock by overnight batsman Nauman Aman and Shiraz Khalid who hit 73. Both put on 180 for the fourth wicket partnership.

Nauman, in a 295-minute stay at the crease hammered 19 fours and two sixes to power Rawalpindi to a position of respectability after beginning the day at his personal score of 25 not out. Shiraz struck 11 fours in his innings that took him 249 minutes.

Meanwhile at KRL Ground, Zarai Taraqaiti Bank Limited (ZTBL) conceded a 76-run first innings lead to hosts KRL who had scored 307 on the opening day.

Pacer Yasir Arafat bagged five for 78 as ZTBL were bowled out for 231. Zahoor Elahi (41) and Faisal Naved (47) made worthwhile contributions.

Ali Naqvi was the other successful bowler, taking three for 37.

At the close of play, KRL were 32 for one in their second innings.

PIA were in commanding position after extending their first innings lead to 215 over hosts Peshawar at Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Veteran opener Ghulam Ali scored 138, Asif Mujtaba 61 while Mahmood Hamid is batting on 78 as PIA closed the day at 359 for six.
