PESHAWAR, Dec 28: About 830,000 people in the 10 districts of the Frontier province and a tribal agency would benefit from the phase-11 of the Barani Area Development Project, which would be completed at a cost of Rs6 billion.

This was stated during a briefing given to NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on the Barani Area Development Project here on Saturday, said a handout. Senior minister Sirajul Haq was also present on the occasion.

The project, aimed at poverty reduction, improvement and welfare for women, would be carried out with the community participation. The project area comprises Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Hangu, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and the Orakzai tribal agency.

The Asian Development Bank would contribute Rs3.1884 billion for the project, followed by the NWFP government with Rs1.2259 billion, IFAD Rs905.4 million and PFI Rs75.1 million, while the beneficiaries’ share would be Rs674.5 million.

The project components include village level development Rs779 million, agriculture and natural resource management Rs1.352 billion, rural infrastructure Rs2.465 billion, rural financial services Rs692 million and institutional support Rs666 million.

The district-wise allocation is as follows; Haripur Rs537 million, Abbottabad Rs532 million, Mansehra Rs576 million, Battagram Rs535 million, Kohistan Rs529 million, Hangu Rs265 million, Kohat Rs641 million, Karak Rs567 million, Bannu Rs696 million, Lakki Marwat Rs637 million and Orakzai Agency Rs554 million.
