First PPP workers’ convention on Jan 5

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Dec 28: The NWFP chapter of Pakistan People’s Party will organize a series of workers’ conventions in the province in the next month to reorganize the party at district level.

This was decided at a PPP provincial council meeting, presided over by PPP provincial chief Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti, here on Saturday.

The meeting nominated Dr Mukhtiar as member on the provincial council from Hashtnagar, Charsadda.

Hoti said the first workers convention would be held at Peshawar on Jan 5, the birthday of the PPP founding chairman, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The meeting termed the federal cabinet being a gathering of the NAB-dodgers and a logical outcome of lotacracy. The way the present government in Islamabad had been put together was a rare precedence in the political history of Pakistan, it added.

The meeting condemned formation of the federal government by the intelligence agencies and other undemocratic forces. Stopping the PPP, which was the majority party in Sindh, from forming a government, and giving a free-hand to murderers and criminals to set up a government, had sent a shockwave in the country.

The meeting called upon the federal government to allow the PPP to form a government in Sindh.

The meeting also urged the government to wind up the National Accountability Bureau, an anti-politician instrument, and form an independent accountability commission with the permission of the National Assembly.

The meeting demanded of the government to withdraw politically manoeuvred cases against PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, Jehangir Badar and allow them to play their political role in the country’s politics.

The meeting also asked the government to end ad hoc recruitments of superior courts judges and allow them to perform duties free of duress. All judges must be recruited on permanent basis.

The meeting called upon the Pakistan Tobacco Board and other tobacco-buying companies not to breach their agreement with the farmers. The meeting asked the government to order the companies to work within the framework of the agreement.

The meeting also demanded of the government to write off loans of farmers who had been affected by floods in district Nowshehra.

Hoti asked the PPP workers to work for the success of Dawar Khan Kundi, who was contesting by-election from NA-25, Tank. He said that Kundi was contesting against the MMA nominee, Maulana Ataur Rehman.
