KARACHI, Dec 28: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday visited the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to pay homage to the founder of the nation. He laid a wreath at the Mazar and offered Fateha.
At the mausoleum, he was received by Chief Secretary K.B. Rind, Home Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha and City Police Chief Asad Ashraf Malik.
Parliamentarians belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were also present.
The governor also visited the tombs of Liaquat Ali Khan, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar and Nurul Amin and offered Fateha.
Meanwhile, Corps Commander Lt-Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi called on the governor on Saturday and remained with him for an hour.
The governor also visited different parts of the city and freely mixed with people without any protocol. Responding to the greetings, Dr Ishrat said that he would be visiting every part of the province to promote unity and harmony and to find solution to people’s problems.
He said supremacy of law, ensuring law and order and promotion of investment were his priorities.
Dr Ishrat said that he has started taking immediate steps for improving the law and order situation and in this regard an ordinance has been promulgated under which strict action would be taken against those involved in extortion, adds APP.
He was talking to journalists after his meeting with PML (F) President Pir Pagara at the Kingri House on Saturday evening.
The governor said that he was the representative of the President in the province and would represent the case of Sindh before the centre.
Dr Ishrat said that he would begin his visit of the province soon after the Sindh cabinet took the oath.
To a question, the governor said that it had never been in his knowledge whether there were any cases against him. He said had it been so, he would have received a notice from the concerned court.
Dr Ishrat said that he had firmly pledged to promote an atmosphere of peace and love in Sindh. He said the doors of the Governor’s House would remain open for people belonging to all sections of society.
The governor requested Pir Pagara to pray for his success and guide him in serving the cause of Sindh. Pir Pagara said that the new governor would enjoy his full cooperation and support.
“To us he represents our uncle, Pir Altaf Hussain,” Pir Pagara added.
He said those who were objecting to the appointment of Dr Ishrat as governor of Sindh had no ground to offer. He said Dr Ishrat is the representative of the centre in the province. “He has not become governor with the votes of political parties.”
