LAHORE, Dec 27: The Lahore High Court office on Friday informed a petitioner that his petition against identification and registration of Pakistani nationals in the US and 20 other countries was missing.
Petitioner M. D. Tahir had inquired about the probable date of hearing. He was told by LHC officials that the file could not be traced and an inquiry had been ordered in this regard.
In the petition, he had sought amendment in the registration procedure recently adopted for Pakistani nationals in the US, declaring it highly discriminatory. He had prayed for enforcement of a similar procedure for American citizens in Pakistan.
OFF THE ECL: A former general manager of the Karachi Port Trust had his name struck off the Exit Control List (ECL) as he was allowed to leave for Haj by the LHC.
The petitioner, Chaudhry Farooq, had approached the LHC with the plea that his name had been put on the ECL by the authorities concerned as a result of misinformation.
The court allowed the petition after hearing arguments of the deputy attorney-general.
