5 withdraw papers in NA-187

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 27: After the withdrawal of five candidates, only six aspirants are left in the field to contest the by-election on NA-187 (Bahawalpur five) seat.

Those who withdrew their nomination papers on Friday were: Khalid Mahmood Jajja (PML-N), Dr Muhammad Ashraf (JI), Muhammad Afzal Sindhu (PPP) and Mrs Rozina Jamil (Ind). The Fifth candidate, Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal, had withdrawn his papers on Thursday.

The remaining six candidates are: Syed Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi, Taj Muhammad Langah, Saood Majid Chaudhry, Maulana Shehbaz Bajwa, Sajjad Jathol and Muhammad Usman Farooq. The returning officer also allotted the election symbols to all the candidates.

Meanwhile, Tasneem Gardezi’s last day refusal to own the ruling party’s ticket stunned the local political circles.

CASES REGISTERED: Cantonment police on Friday registered two cases against a man for allegedly misappropriating Rs0.8 million of a commercial company.

The complaint against Ghulam Abbas was lodged by the Singer company zonal manager who alleged that their local representative had fraudulently embezzled the amount.

ELECTED: Haji Riazuddin Ahmed and Saeed Ahmed Abbasi on Friday were elected unopposed president and secretary-general, respectively, of the United Teachers Association of Government College of Technology, Bahawalpur.

The other office-bearers are: Vice-president Javed Khalique, joint secretary Akram Fani, finance secretary Naeem Mirza and press secretary Mamoon Rashid Badar.
