SRINAGAR, Dec 26: An Indian military plane crashed into a house near Srinagar on Thursday, killing one civilian and injuring another, police said.

The Russian-made Mig-21 crashed in the village of Lalgam, near Srinagar’s airport, injuring two people on the ground. The owner of the house, Ghulam Ahmad Ganai, was evacuated to an air force hospital but died on arrival. Police said the condition of the second person, a teenage boy, was stable.

The Indian army ruled out any foul play in the crash, but one of the Mujahideen groups claimed that it had downed the army plane.—AFP
