HYDERABAD: Muttahida criticizes opposition

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Dec 26: The Sindh Organizing Committee, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Hyderabad zone, has lashed out against those people who were opposing the appointment of an MQM nominee, Dr Ishratul Ibad, as the governor of Sindh and branded them “as the enemies of Sindh and democracy”.

Speaking at a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday, the members of the committee, including Sindhi-speaking members, said that the MQM was struggling for the rights of 98 per cent of the population and it was trying to promote positive political traditions.

They said that it had always respected its political opponents and never objected to appointments of its opponents at any responsible post.

They, however, regretted that nationalists, political and religious parties, some of which had a dubious agenda, were opposing the appointment of Dr Ibad as the governor of Sindh “due to narrow-mindedness”.

They said that no controversy was ever raised on anybody’s appointment in other provinces but this was being done in Sindh “under a planned conspiracy”.

They feared that such a negative attitude could create a sense of deprivation among the permanent residents of Sindh.

They alleged that when Sindh was deprived of all its rights, including the right of governance, the so-called nationalists and religious parties had unleashed a propaganda against democratic and patriotic forces, which had opposed undemocratic and unconstitutional measures.

The text of the press conference was read by Hameedullah Baloch.
