KARACHI, Dec 24: Pak PWD and Allied Bank Limited were the only winners in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship as the remaining nine matches were badly disrupted by bad weather across the country on the fourth and final day on Tuesday.
PWD needed 96 minutes to claim Dadu’s remaining five wickets after Monday’s heavy rain delayed the start at UBL Complex by an hour.
Dadu were eventually dismissed for 149 in their second innings, giving PWD a well-deserved 97-run victory. Pacer Shakeel-ur-Rehman and off-spinner Aftab Ahmed captured four wickets each with the former completing a match haul of nine for 67.
ABL trounced Multan by an innings and 33 runs at Multan Cricket Stadium.
Multan, overnight 184 for seven, were all out for 251 in their second essay. Ex-Test off-spinner Arshad Khan had a match bag of seven for 117.
Mohammad Fazil finished unbeaten with 91.
Wapda were the other side to win outright, defeating Servis Industries by 10 runs in Okara on Monday.
Bahawalpur, meanwhile, batted throughout the day to earn a creditable draw against Karachi Whites at National Stadium.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of the NSK groundstaff, play began on time with Bahawalpur resuming at 74 for no wicket in their second innings.
The visitors were 321 for five when the match was called off at the end of the eighth mandatory over. Helped by inspired and wayward bowling, Bahawalpur were never in real trouble on a pitch that played exceptionally well.
Opener Mohammad Rashid was Bahawalpur’s hero with a solid 80 in a stay of 205 minutes. His innings was laced with 13 boundaries.
Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Only 4.1 overs’ play could be possible at Saga Ground in Sialkot on the last day in the match between Gujranwala and Sialkot.
Sialkot, who resumed their second innings at nought for the loss of one wicket, scored 10 runs without any loss before the rain had the last laugh.
