ISLAMABAD, Dec 23: The government will issue a five-rupee coin from Dec 26 through all offices of the State Bank of Pakistan, Banking Services Corporation and National Bank of Pakistan, as had been decided earlier by the federal cabinet.

However, the banknotes of five rupee denomination in circulation will continue to be legal tender till further orders.

The coin will be round in shape, with serrated edge, and a diameter of 24mm, weighing 6.5 grams.

The waxing crescent moon and a five-pointed star is in the centre of the coin. A circle of small beads is all along its edge. —APP
