WASHINGTON, Dec 23: Iraqi aircraft on Monday shot down an unmanned US Predator reconnaissance drone in a “no-fly” zone over southern Iraq, where US and British aircraft have stepped up attacks in recent weeks.
Iraqi aircraft are barred from the “no-fly” zones over the northern and southern regions, but at least one entered the southern zone to shoot down the drone, US military officials said.
“They got a lucky shot today and they brought down the Predator,” said General Richard Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.—AFP
