LAHORE, Dec 23: A defiant unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 183 between Saleem Mughal (137) and Mohammad Islam (69) helped Sheikhupura take an unexpected 44-run lead on first innings against Lahore Whites in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-III at Gaddafi Stadium here on Monday.
Sheikhupura, resuming their first innings at 149 for four in reply to Lahore Whites’ 353, finished the day in a commanding position at 397 for six.
Saleem, who began the day on 27, played with great authority to slam 16 fours.
In other matches of the group, Pakistan Customs got a vital 32-run lead against Habib Bank at the Lahore Country Club, Muridke.
Replying to Customs’s first innings total of 276, HBL resumed their innings at 235 for eight but were able to add just nine runs before being all out for 244 in 74 overs.
Customs, however, then struggled to reach 165 for eight in their second innings for an overall lead of 197.
Gujranwala, meanwhile, stretched their lead over Sialkot to 324 at Saga Ground in Sialkot.
Gujranwala, who had taken a 49-run lead on first innings, scored 275 in the second knock after resuming at 16 for one.
At stumps, Sialkot lost opener Shahid Yousuf without a run on the board.
