FAISALABAD, Dec 23: A mega project for water supply will be started in the district next month with the financial assistance of a Japanese organization.
According to a Wasa spokesman, a plan was made to providing water to citizens in 1998, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency had assured a financial aid for this project. But the same was postponed due to restrictions imposed by international agencies after nuclear blasts in May 1998.
He said after reminders by Wasa highups and functionaries of the provincial government, JICA authorities held a series of meetings with the local authorities and reconfirmed the commencement of the plan. He said Rs3.5 billion would be spent on this project.
The spokesman said 12 more tubewells would be installed at the Chenab bed in Chiniot. The land in Chak 7-JB on Faisalabad-Sargodha Road would also be purchased by spending Rs20 million for laying main pipeline, he said.
Conference: A three-day All-Pakistan Science Conference will be held at the University of Agriculture here on Thursday.
National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Husain will inaugurate the conference being organized by the Pakistan Association for the Advancement of Science.
The inaugural function will be presided over by former UAF vice-chancellor Dr Amir Mohammad, the president of the Pakistan Association for the Advancement of Science.
Scientists from all over the country will read their papers in different sessions of the three-day conference.
