MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 23: The main opposition Peoples Party in Azad Kashmir (PPAJK) has asked the Muslim Conference government to step down or else “the people of the state would do it themselves.”
“Sardar Sikandar Hayat-led government has failed to deliver on all fronts. Whether it is projection of the Kashmir cause at the domestic and international level or the development of Azad Kashmir, the performance of the government is more than pathetic,” alleged a resolution, which was read at an Eid Millan party, here on Monday.
The event, attended by almost all top PPAJK leaders and a large number of workers and citizens, was hosted by PPAJK secretary information and former minister for local government and rural development, Khwaja Farooq Ahmed.
“Peoples Party believes that any further stay of this incompetent regime will be detrimental to the interests of the Kashmiris on either side,” the resolution said.
It said that the “overwhelming response to this function was a clear message that the people were ready to launch a movement for the government’s ouster.”
“But we are avoiding giving any such call to the people only for the sake of the liberation movement being fought by our valiant brethren across the cease-fire line,” the resolution demanded.
The resolution also condemned in strong words the death sentence awarded by an Indian court to three Kashmiris, and urged the international community to play its role for the abolishment of the draconian and Muslim-specific POTA law.
The government of Pakistan and the AJK-based chapter of the APHC should accelerate their efforts at the diplomatic and political level to expose India before the world, the resolution emphasized.
The host of the function, Khwaja Farooq Ahmed, pointed out that Sardar Sikandar had created confrontation not only with the president of the state but also with the president of his own party.
“Some members of his cabinet are blatantly involved in corruption. Besides, the government had also adopted discriminatory attitude in distribution of relief goods among the victims of Indian shelling,” he alleged and claimed that “those who had brought the party in power were themselves worried over the situation.”
Former ministers Sahibzada Ishaq Zafar, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Manzoor Shah, MLA Raja Masood Rathore, Kashmir Council member Sardar Sawar Khan and dozens others spoke on the occasion.
