1,130kg morphine seized

QUETTA, Dec 23: Balochistan Anti-Narcotics Force seized 1,130kg of morphine and 4kg of opium after an encounter with drug traffickers near the Afghan border in Chaghai district, said a press release of the ANF on Monday.

The press release said the ANF authorities had received information that on Dec 21 night, some Afghan smugglers would try to smuggle drugs into the country for transportation to Iran on camels.

An ANF team took position in Huku Nullah and spotted the smugglers near two vehicles. When the troops tried to encircle the smugglers, they started indiscriminate firing. A heavy exchange of fire continued for more than half an hour, the press release said.

The smugglers escaped across the border in their vehicles. The estimated value of the drugs is said to be over Rs3 billion.

A case has been registered and investigation started.—APP
