KARACHI, Dec 23: Despite repeated complaints by residents of the UC-9, no measures have been taken so far to flush out sewage which has inundated the main Daudpota Road.
The affected residents of Muslimabad, in Jamshed Town, said that they were facing immense hardship due to the filthy water accumulated in their locality.
They pointed out that though the stagnant water had accumulated there for many days, the sewage overflow had become a chronic problem as choking of gutter lines had become order of the day.
Apart from the residents, passersby and commuters, the worst hit are the children who study in three schools located on this road. They have no other option but to walk into the pool of filthy water to cross the road before entering into their respective schools.
The principal of one of the schools said that the elected representatives had recently taken measures to rid the residents of the unbearable situation. However, she added, the work to clear the choked sewerage lines had provided a temporary relief.
She criticized the local councillors and concerned UC staff for neglecting the miseries of hundreds of people which includes students, their parents and teachers who are made to jump into the sewage every day.
She indicated that a ruptured pipeline of potable water and leaking water tankers passing through the area were also responsible for the heavy damage caused to the road.
Frustrated by indifferent attitude of the Nazimeen of the town and union council, she said, people of the area had even approached the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, for a permanent solution to the chronic problem but in vain. —PPI
