Qublai slams double hat trick

LAHORE, Dec 22: A superb double hat trick by Shah Qublai Alam ably supported by younger brother Shamyl who scored two goals enabled Global Telecom to trounce Musa Industries 9-1 1/2 to win the Winter Cup polo championship on Sunday.

Qublai struck his first three goals by the end of the second chukker to complete his first hat trick. He registered his second hat trick scoring two goals in the third and one in the fourth chukker.

Shamyl scored both his goals in the third chukker. Kamran Nooruddin chipped in one goal in the fourth.

For the losers with half a goal on handicap, the only goal was scored by Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana.

Earlier, in a well contested encounter Sindh Horse beat Black Berets by a half goal margin (8- 7 1/2) to secure the third spot.

Till the beginning of the third chukker, Sindh Horse were losing 5 1/2-4. But they recovered to score four goals in the third chukker against two scored by their rivals to win the match. The fourth chukker was goalless.

Hamid who scored five goals also struck the match-winner. Hussain Iftikhar, Jamal Iftikhar and Irfan Ali Hyder scored a goal each for the winners.

For Black Berets, Taimur Malik slammed four goals while Col. Talha Saeed and Sattar banged home a goal each. Black Berets had one and a half goal on handicap.
