GILGIT: Karakoram Highway blocked

GILGIT, Dec 22: The Karakoram Highway, that was blocked in Tatupani and Chamugarh on Friday following earthquakes, could not be opened for traffic despite hectic efforts by the frontier Works Organization on Sunday, sources said.

The highway was closed following quake that struck the areas on Friday and Saturday nights, measuring five and 4.9 in Richter scale respectively, that caused heavy mudslides along Tatupani, Met office sources said.

The relief efforts by NGOs in Astore valley also suffered.
