Kamran, Bazid rescue PIA

Published December 22, 2002

RAWALPINDI, Dec 21: Opener Kamran Sajid and Bazid Khan were the only bright spots as PIA struggled to 155 for six in their first innings against KRL on a truncated opening day of Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship tie at KRL Stadium here on Saturday.

Making their debut for the national carrier, Kamran (52) and Bazid (45) shared a third-wicket partnership of 55 after Ghulam Ali (0) and Yasir Hameed (8) had gone with 34 runs on the board.

Jaffar Nazir troubled all the batsmen after Ali Naqvi, the KRL captain, had opted to field first having beaten Moin Khan on the spin of the coin. The right-arm pacer’s victims were Ghulam Ali, Bazid and Moin (9).

Ali Naqvi chipped in with the scalp of Kamran while Faisal Afridi sent back Yasir and Mohammad Asif got rid of Asif Mujtaba (16).

There was no play at all in the match between Rawalpindi and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), formerly known as ADBP, because the entire square at Pindi Cricket Stadium was saturated.

Meanwhile, Peshawar skipper Jahangir Khan made Karachi Blues pay heavily for inserting his side into bat by smashing 168 off 197 balls in the other Group-IV fixture at Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Peshawar reached stumps at 373 for eight in their first innings. Mohammad Fayyaz (68 off 98 balls) also batted well in partnership with Jahangir. These two were involved in a fourth-wicket stand of 126.
