ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: Foreign Minister Mian Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri will leave for Kabul on Sunday to sign a declaration on good neighbourly relations between Afghanistan and its immediate neighbouring countries.

The minister will sign the declaration with his counterparts from China, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The declaration essentially pertains to non-interference in Afghanistan by its neighbours.

“The Declaration will be another step towards a stronger and more stable Afghanistan,” the foreign office spokesman said in a statement, reiterating that Pakistan’s Afghan policy was based on the principle of strict non-interference.

Additional Secretary Aziz Ahmed Khan will accompany the minister. Both will return to Islamabad the same day.

The international community has attached great importance to the signing of this declaration.

This can be gauged from the fact that international observers from the European Union, G-8, and Organization of Islamic Conference will attend the ceremony.

Special representatives from India and Saudi Arabia will also be present on the occasion, Dawn has learnt.
