LAHORE, Dec 20: Justice Tassaduq Husain Jilani of the Lahore High Court set aside the disqualification of six Naib Nazimeen with the observation that disqualification of an elected Nazim did not apply to his deputy.

Setting aside the judgment of election tribunal, the court ruled that Section 16 of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance was effective only before the introduction of the new local government system.

Under this section, the disqualification of a Nazim automatically resulted in that of his Naib as well.

An election tribunal of the LHC had disqualified six Naib Nazimeen on the ground that their immediate bosses were disqualified. — Reporter
