RAWALPINDI, Dec 20: Six persons, including five members of a family, were burnt in separate incidents in Rawalpindi on Friday, victims and hospital authorities said.

In the first incident, five members of a family were burnt in a gas-leak explosion at Dhoke Ali Akbar, Sadiqabad, police said.

The incident took place in Haji Gulfraz’s house, when Perveen Bibi, aged 55, tried to light a gas stove for preparing breakfast. Since the kitchen was filled with gas, an explosion took place, the fire department officials said.

As a result of fire, Haji Gulfraz, 60, Perveen Bibi, Amina Bibi, 20, Mariam Bibi, 18, and 18-month-old Abdullah suffered burns.

On hearing the screams of the victims, their neighbours rushed to their rescue and started efforts to control the fire. After the fire was extinguished, the injured were shifted to the Rawalpindi General Hospital.

Likewise, a 16-year-old girl, who had suffered more than 60 per cent burns after a kerosene oil stove blew up, was shifted to the RGH on Friday afternoon.

Farhat Bibi, belonging to Chakwal and currently residing at Pirwadhai, was filling the oil stove when the fire erupted.

Meanwhile, the RA Bazaar police found a mutilated body of a man near the Race Course Ground on Friday.

The deceased is yet to be identified. Police said the cause of death was not known so far, and the victim appeared to have died more than two weeks ago.
