7 tribunals to hear by-poll appeals

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19: The Election Commission appointed on Thursday seven election tribunals, comprising high court judges, for the disposal of appeals against the decisions of the returning officers about nominations papers of candidates for by-elections to the constituencies of the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies.

Three election tribunals will work in Punjab, two in Sindh and one each in Balochistan and the NWFP.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Tassadaq Hussain Jilani and Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha, will hear appeals relating to the following constituencies:

NA-56 Rawalpindi-VII; NA-74, Bhakkar-II; PP-8, Rawalpindi-VIII; PP-44, Mianwali-II; PP-47, Bhakkar-I and PP-61, Faisalabad-XI.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Mian M. Najam-uz-Zaman and Justice Pervez Ahmad, will decide appeals relating to NA-142, Kasur-V; PP-103, Gujranwala-XIII; PP-110, Gujrat-III; PP-112, Gujrat-V; PP-142, Lahore-VI and PP-147, Lahore-XI.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Raja Mohammad Sabir and Justice M. Naeemullah Khan Sherwani, will be competent to hear appeals relating to NA-163, Sahiwal-IV; NA-187, Bahawalpur-V; PP-200, Multan-VII; PP-245, D.G.Khan-VI; PP-247, Rajanpur-I; PP-266, Layyah-V and PP-295, Rahim Yar Khan-XI.

In Sindh, two tribunals will work.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Mohammad Roshan Esani and Justice Mohammad Moosa K. Leghari, will hear appeals relating to NA-229, Tharparkar-I; NA-242, Karachi-IV; PS-86, Thatta-III and PS-76, Dadu-VI.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Mohammad Sadiq Leghari, will hear appeals relating to NA-201, Ghotki-II, NA-216, Khairpur-II; PS-10 Shikarpur-II; PS-12, Shikarpur-IV and PS-18, Jacobabad-VI.

In the NWFP, the tribunal, comprising Justice Abdur Rauf Khan Lughmani and Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, will hear appeals against the rejection or acceptance of nomination for NA-25, D.I.Khan-cum-Tank; NA-34, Lower Dir; PF-20 Charsadda-IV and PF-67 D.I.Khan-IV.

The tribunal for Balochistan will have little work as by-elections are being held only in PB-31, Kachhi-II. The tribunal will consist of Justice Amanullah Khan and Justice Fazal-ur-Rehman.
