Funds sought for Landaki project

Published December 20, 2002

PESHAWAR, Dec 19: Jamal Khan, Nazim, Tehsil council Batkhela and Azizur Rehman, Nazim, union council Thana Khas, have appealed to the NWFP government to provide funds for the Landaki irrigation scheme to save over 12,000 acres of fertile land from becoming barren.

In a statement on Thursday the Nazimeen said that the poor farmers of the area had been adversely affected by non-functioning of the Landaki channel.

They said the affected people had repeatedly brought the issue in the notice of the successive governments but no action had been taken in this regard.

The Nazimeen said that the non-functioning of the said channel added to the miseries of the people, already facing economic hardships.

They demanded of the Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani, and other concerned quarters to look into the matter and help resolve this long standing problem of the area.—APP
