No horse-trading in SA: Governor

By Our Correspondent

JACOBABAD, Dec 19: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said the question of appointment of MQM’s Dr Ishratul Ibad as the governor should be put to the president.

Talking to newsmen after the foundation-laying ceremony of the office of Nadra and a labour colony here on Thursday, Soomro said he was ready to resume any duty with the consent of the president.

About horse-trading in the Sindh Assembly, he denied any such thing had taken place and said he had not played any role in the election of the Chief Minister.

He said there were no “no-go” areas in Sindh and added the law and order situation was improving in the province.

He said efforts were being made to curb criminal activities on the Balochistan-Sindh border.

The governor informed the newsmen funds would be obtained from the Asian Bank to link roads with bypass in Jacobabad, Thul and Kandhkot.

He said potable water would soon be made available in Jacobabad.

He stressed the need for setting up more industrial units to control unemployment in the province.

He deplored the poor standard of education in Sindh and called for steps to improve it.

Speaking on the occasion, the labour secretary, Raja Abbas, said trained teachers would be appointed in the Workers Model School.
