Cases registered against three sugar mills

NAWABSHAH, Dec 19: Three separate cases were registered against the Habib Sugar Mills, Sakrand Sugar Mills, and the Al-Noor Sugar Mills under the Sugarcane Act, 1950, on Thursday.

The cases were registered by cane inspector Ali Dino Abro, on the orders of Sindh cane commissioner Mohammad Siddiq Memon, due to delay in the crushing season and offering lower price to sugarcane growers against the fixed price of Rs43 per 40kgs.

The case against the Habib Sugar Mills, Nawabshah, was registered with the judicial magistrate-II, the case against the Sakrand Sugar Mills with the civil judge, Sakrand, and the case against the Al-Noor Sugar Mills, Shahpur Jehanian, was registered with the judicial magistrate, Daulatpur.

Notices were also issued to the Habib Sugar Mills and the Sakrand Sugar Mills to appear before the court concerned on Dec 24.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Abadgar Board, Nawabshah, at a meeting held here on Thursday, deplored sugar mills were not paying the fixed price of Rs43 per 40kgs to sugarcane growers.

The meeting said the mills were continuing the zoning system and no premium was being paid.

It was decided that another meeting would be held on Dec 26 to decide the future course of action.

The president of the board, Syed Zain Shah, presided over the meeting.

ZONING SYSTEM: The Nawabshah District Council, at its session held here on Thursday, demanded that sugar mills should close the zoning system.

In his briefing, the EDO, education, informed the members that scholarships worth Rs1.6 million were given to 1,235 students during the current year.

The leader of opposition and Nazim of the Pir Zakria union council, Syed Muneer Shah, walked out of the session, saying the members were not being taken into confidence while approving development schemes.

The convener, Khalid Hussain Channa, presided over the session.
