Wapda snaps 100 illegal connections
LARKANA, Dec 18: A special team of Wapda snapped around 100 illegal connections on Wednesday and fined the consumers.
Asghar Shaikh, SDO, Hesco, Chandka sub-division, in a press release said the team also disconnected the power supply of a local hotel and registered a case against its management for stealing electricity through an underground cable.
However, acting DPO Mohammad Alam Shinwari said no FIR had been registered with the Civil Line police so far.
The manager of the hotel, Imtiaz Shah, said the hotel had no illegal connection and Wapda had disconnected its power supply to conceal the losses.
He said Hesco had sent a detection bill of Rs386,000 to the hotel.
He said the Hesco chief and the superintendent engineer concerned were contacted in this regard and it was decided that the hotel would pay the current bill of Rs28,826. The rest of the amount had to paid later, he added.
POLIO: Syed Shafi Mohammad Shah, goodwill ambassador of the World Health Organization on polio, has underscored the need for creating awareness about polio.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he advised parents to bring their children up to five years of age to centres of the Expanded Programme of Immunization for anti-polio drops and vaccines for other diseases.
He said efforts should be made to eradicate polio in the country.
The district officer, health, Dr Khalil Katpar, said 1,203 teams had been constituted to administer anti-polio drops to 538,550 children in the district.
He said seven cases of polio had been detected in the Larkana district — four in Shahdadkot, two in Mirokhan, and one in Kambar.
