HYDERABAD, Dec 18: Two line superintendents of the Hesco were arrested on charges of misappropriating millions of rupees in the electricity supply work to different villages of Nawabshah, an FIA source said here on Wednesday.

Mohammad Jamshed and Allah Dino Solangi were arrested after registration of a case by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The case was, in fact, lodged against 16 Hesco officials, most of who are SDOs and line superintendents including Javed Unnar, Maqbool Memon, Zamanullah Dasti, Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, Makhdoom Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Aslam Solangi, Abdul Rasool, Athar Memon, Ghulam Ali Unnar, Abdul Rasheed Khokhar, Gul Muhammad Taggar, Muhammad Saeed Sheikh and Ghulam Mustafa Saand.

Official sources said that the misappropriated amount runs into millions of rupees and most of the work was carried out when Arif Memon was posted as the Hesco’s XEN, construction, in Nawabshah.

He has, however, not been named in the FIR, the sources said, adding that line superintendents were responsible for the embezzlement as they had drawn the material from the stores or depots of the Hesco but the same were either sold to factories. Forged bills were also submitted, showing their utilisation for the work, they said.

The sources said that there were dozens of villages in Nawabshah, Sanghar, Naushero Feroze and parts of Dadu where this construction work of electricity supply was to be carried out but no work was done.

The registration of the FIR followed an inquiry by the FIA, Hyderabad circle on receipt of embezzlement reports.

The reports were mostly obtained from the office of the project director, Hesco.

Sources said that a separate internal inquiry is under way in the Hesco against the officials for the past several years, adding that the outcome of the inquiry has not been made public.

They further said that the completion report had indicated that the material, which had been obtained was not utilised on the ground.

The FIR was lodged after the FIA obtained proofs of embezzlement.

The final charge sheet would be submitted later.
