RAWALPINDI, Dec 17: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mian Mohammad Shafi on Tuesday acquitted two persons of the charges of adultery on account of contradictory statements of the prosecution/police witnesses.

The accused - Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ashraf - were booked by Wah Cantt police in an early morning raid on a hotel for allegedly hiring a woman for adultery.

But in the court, the police officials, who were witnesses in the case, made controversial statements. Besides, the defence counsel contended that the police had implicated the accused.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Akram Awan issued show cause notices to the station house officer (SHO) of Murree police station and a Tehsildar of the same area for not presenting records in a murder case, State Vs Mazhar Hussain.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate Syed Abbas Raza Gillani granted bail to 13 students who were accused of gambling in a snooker club.

About 19 students were booked by the New Town police for allegedly gambling at a snooker club. The accused were presented in the court after completion of five-day physical remand. As some of the students belonged to far-off areas, they could not hire the services of legal experts for bail.

Earlier, the defence counsel contended in the court that the police had arrested the students at a public place and without any evidence. He maintained that many of the students even did not know how to play snooker, as they were just the spectators. He added that the alleged gambling money was actually the pocket money of the students, which the police had taken from them during body search.
