Girl injured resisting rape bid

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 17: A girl was shot and injured allegedly by the son of a rich farmer in Chak 385-JB, Salahrian Wala, after she resisted his rape bid on Monday

Accused Muhammad Arif called the girl, the daughter of a potter, at his home and attempted to rape her. The girl put up resistance and raised an alarm. The accused shot at and injured her.

She was admitted to the DHQ Hospital but was later driven to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital.

Cane growers: The provincial sugarcane commissioner has taken serious notice of the growers’ complaints regarding short measuring at purchase centres of sugar mills.

An official said here on Tuesday that for prompt redressing of the farmers’ complaints, DCOs of 19 districts, including Toba Tek Singh, have been directed to form supervisory committees at tehsil level.

The deputy district officer (revenue) of the tehsil would be its chairman while its other six members would include two farmers, a non-official member of sugarcane control board, district food controller, extra assistant director (agriculture) and general manager of sugar mills concerned.

DISMISSAL: The DCO (revenue) dismissed from service office clerk Ishtiaq Ahmad on the charge of embezzlement of funds.

The clerk had drawn Rs783,211 through fake cheques from a bank of Kamalia and the charge was proved in an inquiry.
