Shopkeepers protest against dacoities

SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 17: Various shopping centres, markets and bazaars remained closed for many hours on Tuesday in protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

Hundreds of shopkeepers gathered at Regal Chowk and later marched on the Lahore-Sargodha Road. They also chanted slogans against the rising incidents of dacoity and theft.

Speaking on the occasion, Traders Association president Aslam Baloch said many incidents of dacoity and theft had been committed in the city during the last 24 hours. Three shops were looted at Regal Chowk and two in Madina Market, but the police had failed to find any clue to the culprits.

He urged the DPO to transfer SHOs of the A and B divisions as they had failed to check the crime.

DIES ON ROAD: An employee of Fauji Sugar Mills was knocked down by a tractor-trolley near Sangla Hill here on Tuesday.

Majibur Rehman was crossing the road when the tractor-trolley crushed him to death.

Tractor driver Khalid managed to escape from the scene.

TWO MURDERED: Two persons, including a woman, were murdered in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his employers in Farooqabad.

Allah Ditta, 25, was employed at an iron store. A few days ago, a theft incident took place at the shop. The store owners, Imtiaz and Tariq, put the blame on Allah Ditta and stabbed him to death.

A woman was axed to death allegedly by her brother, Ghafoor, over suspicion of her bad character in Kot Ahmad.

SUICIDE: A jobless youth, Naeem, committed suicide by taking poisonous pills in Faizpur village on Jaranwala Road on Tuesday.
