KARACHI, Dec 17: A fire broke out in the lobby of the main entrance to the Sindh Assembly building on Tuesday night.
“The assembly session was in progress when a fire broke out in the main power supply cable board due to high voltage,” said a spokesman for the fire department.
Some senior officials of the fire brigade already present in the assembly building acted quickly and used dry chemical cylinders to put out the fire, the spokesman added.
Power supply to the assembly building was stopped as a precautionary measure to avert a major disaster.
However, a KESC team present on the assembly premises employed a standby generator and restored power supply.
The fire was brought under control within 15-20 minutes. No major damage was reported.
Two fire tenders were sent to the Sindh assembly building as reinforcement.
