Atif’s offer to PHF

LAHORE, Dec 16: Former secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Brig (retd) M.H.Atif has offered to return Rs 1.5 million to Pakistan Hockey Federation (FIH) if he fails to motivate the team to victory podium in the 2004 Athens Olympic provided he is given the job of technical advisor.

“If the team wins under my supervision I should be given Rs half million and if I fail in my job I will return three times bigger amount to PHF which is Rs 1.5 million”, he told newsmen at a press conference here Monday.

He said the players are full of potential and talent but lack in some technical matters which he claimed can be corrected under his supervision.

Former manager and coach of the team, urged the present team management to minutely watch the individul performance of the players and notice where they lack and implement individul plans for correction.

He spoke highly against European style of hockey and said despite having been adopted to this style Pakistan team has failed to show significent imporvement.

Atif advocated Asian style of hockey and said the Pakistan team can attain success provided it sticks to this style which has beauty and finery.

Atif who was the chiarman of the International Hockey Federations Rule Board for eight years rejected a questioner that frequent changes in the rules have ended long time supremacy of the sub-continent in the game.

Meanwhile, an International exhibition hockey match will be played here in the second week of April next year to mark the Golden Jubilee of Brig (retd) Manzoor Hussain Atif in the field of hockey and becoming a member of honour in FIH.—APP
